General Description


This outfall was constructed in 1936.

Sewerage Catchment:

  • Port Kembla outfall is the discharge point for the Port Kembla STP which services the residential, commercial and industrial areas of Port Kembla (from Coniston in the north to Yallah in the south).

Sewage Treatment:  

  • Port Kembla STP uses a primary treatment process with chemically assisted sedimentation used during wet weather (MHL769 1997). A chlorination-dechlorination system was commissioned in late 1996.

Outfall:

  • The outfall is located on Red Point and discharges at a depth of approximately 8m (5m in Patterson, Britton & Partners, CEE & AWT 1998) below sea level.
